We reflect on a story from Luke 24. The day after Jesus was crucified, two disciples have decided to return to their homes. While they walk along the road a stranger joins them. They talk about the current events in Jerusalem, how Rome and Judea executed Jesus, and how this Galilean movement was over. They talked about their sacred scriptures to comfort one another with the idea that God has not abandoned them. They don't know what it is about this stranger, but he inspires them, fills them with hope, helps them find meaning in their lives, even amid tragedy and trauma. These are familiar feelings. When they reach their home, they invite the stranger inside for a meal. As they break the bread the stranger suddenly turns into Jesus. As quickly as Jesus appeared, he vanished. They had seen the risen Jesus in the breaking of the bread.
Our Mission is to gather as a community to encourage and nurture Christ-like service.
Mark your calendars for these great events coming up.
