The Rejoicing Spirits ministry reaches out to enrich the spiritual lives of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities along with their families, friends and other supportive community members.

God's message of love is shared through a meaningful and adapted 30-45 minute Christian worship service. Individuals are free to be themselves while actively participating as contributing members in an inclusive faith community. Fellowship prior to the service allows time for networking and building friendships.

The trifold brochure contains more information about the
national model . Our invitation includes dates, time and location information for worship services at Our Shepherd Lutheran Church.

Why Does Rejoicing Spirits Exist?

The Rejoicing Spirits worship service can meet the needs of individuals in various ways:

  • Serves as a stepping stone for those wanting to take the first step into a faith community.

  • Offers complementary worship & fellowship opportunities for those who already belong to a faith community.

  • Provides an inclusive faith community that may fully meet their needs.

Rejoicing Spirits featured on PBS TV

The short film Creating Room in God's House was shown on the July 3, 2009 edition of the PBS newsmagazine program "Religion and Ethics Newsweekly". This 8+ minute video highlights spiritual inclusion of people with disabilities within the Christian, Jewish and Muslim faiths. Rejoicing Spirits is shown as an example of how Christian faith communities can intentionally reach out to welcome people with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities.
