February 2016

“Bring Dad to School” is an event that brings dads and students together. This year they used their imaginations in creating sensational snowman and snow animals. I’m not sure who had more fun, the children or their guests.

President's Day

Our annual trip to the bowling alley was perfectly timed in the middle of our big snow storm. It was exactly what we needed to get us out of the house for some much needed exercise and time with friends. The class pictures all came out amazing, our photographer has a special way of capturing the children at their best.

As always, our Valentine’s parties were a complete success. Each child played postal carrier delivering their Valentine’s to their friends' cubbies. Many were reading their friends' names, making their teachers so proud.

The children enjoyed learning about current and past presidents. They especially enjoyed showing off their creations as some of us posed for the camera in our Abe Lincoln flag hats. We are never too old to be silly while we enjoy life to its fullest.

Enrollment for 2016-2017 school year was filling up so quickly that in mid-January our school board made the decision to open up a third classroom. We are happy to say all four classes are nearly full. The summer months promise to be busy with remodeling the new room, ordering needed furniture and supplies, hiring and training new teachers and aides, and planning the curriculum for the year. This is an exciting time for Our Shepherd Preschool as well as the families of our school. Thanks to the trust and support of our wonderful parents and their students, along with our church family, we continue to be blessed as we serve our community.

I thank God for everyone who has ever been a part of Our Shepherd Preschool, and I look forward to what the Lord has in store for our school in the coming months and years to come.

Blessings, Nickki

September 2015

After a great summer school has started with much excitement, laughter and learning. It’s not surprising that even the tears of our very youngest students have turned into smiles of joy. All the children are settling into the routine and enjoy coming to school. They are making new friends and getting reacquainted with old ones. It’s such a blessing to play even a small role in the education of the youngest of students.

Playing, coloring and crafting are only a few of the ways we learn at Our Shepherd. The children are discovering math and chemistry through cooking and measuring and they are learning their alphabet and sign language through exercise and art. We are becoming aware of our environment through exploration and hands on experiences and discovering things about our selves and our history through stories, songs and activities.

At Our Shepherd Preschool we believe teaching is not only a privilege it’s a gift. Children learn in many unique ways and at very different levels and our goal is to meet each student where they are enhancing their abilities and talents, growing their love of learning and giving them a strong foundation that will last them for many years to come.

If you are looking for a school for your child you are welcome to visit us and see for yourself the things happening at our wonderful school. Please call anytime, we’d be happy to talk and visit with you at your convenience.

July 2015

The end of our school year was filled with many outdoor activities and fun packed field trips. From our trips to the Maryland Zoo and the fire station to exploring on the playground and playing with chalk, learning can be so much fun. The classroom isn’t the only place teaching happens. Stretching the imaginations and knowledge of children becomes well rounded when explored through many different experiences.

As you can see from these pictures, learning and fun go hand in hand at Our Shepherd Preschool. Even in these snowy months, we found time to go on two field trips. Spending time outside of the classroom is a learning experience too. As we bowled, we learned firsthand the importance of cooperation and patience, through sharing and waiting our turn. We practiced math by counting the pins as they fell and the physics of tossing balls and seeing the different spins we can create to hit more of the pins. Although it's freezing outside, our trip to the ice cream shop proves it's never too cold for ice cream! Who knew learning can be such an adventure.

All three Valentine parties were successful. All the children played postal workers as they hand delivered their Valentine cards and treats to their friends. Many of the children wrote their own cards and are reading not only their names but the names of their friends too! We teachers are so proud. One of our science projects was learning all about volcanoes. The children were captivated as you can see as they were able to create an actual volcanic eruption with a homemade volcano using vinegar and baking soda.

Our Shepherd preschool has proudly served this and the surrounding communities for more than 45 years. As a staff we are always reinventing ourselves to ensure that our students receive the best education we possible can provide. Through hands on experiences, our goal for our children is for them to grow academically, physically, spiritually and socially. We work to encourage the love of learning in every student, clearly promoting strong healthy foundations in each individual lasting for years to come. We are currently accepting registrations for the 2015-2106 academic year. Please call to schedule a visit.
